Gilbert Sullivan's H.M.S. Pinafore by Troupers Light Opera Company
Troupers is pleased to present Gilbert and Sullivan's first huge success, the beloved "HMS Pinafore" performed by a cast of 20 and full orchestra. This satire of love, class, and the Navy has been popular for over 100 years:

Ralph Rackstraw, a common seaman, loves Josephine, the Captain's daughter but is far too poor to hope for his affections to be returned. Meanwhile the Captain hopes to marry off Josephine to Sir Joseph Porter, the First Lord of the Admiralty, to advance his family's status. Little do they know that Josephine also loves Ralph, and despite the skeptical comments of Dick Deadeye, they try to sneak off to be married, only to be thwarted by the Captain and Deadeye. The show ends happily when Buttercup reveals a "long concealed crime" that makes the marriage possible.

As a curtain-raiser, Troupers will also perform "The Magic Knight," Victor Herbert's ridiculous satire of grand opera, and in particular of "Lohengrin." Elsa's brother Godfrey has vanished and her aunt and uncle Frederick and Ortrud would like to have her condemned for doing away with Godfrey so they can inherit her estate. Elsa admits to no infraction except for "singing cadenzas" and calls for an errant knight to come rescue her. He does after first singing a song and dance number.

This is Troupers 73rd season in Fairfield County.
